Latest updates on the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Dear Dames and Knights,

FEMERAID International Team would like to provide you with the latest updates on the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Indicators Number 22/06/26
Confirmed cases: 1,003
Deaths: 254
Recoveries reported: 100+
Case fatality rate: ~25% significantly lower than expected
Health workers infected: 75

This makes the outbreak one of the largest in recent years and the second largest worldwide.

Uganda continues to report imported cases linked to the DRC outbreak. The cases remain primarily among travelers from the DRC and their contacts. Local transmission chains have been limited compared with the DRC. Enhanced border surveillance and contact tracing remain active.

Unlike the Congo Ebola strain, there is no licensed vaccine specifically approved and currently no proven targeted treatment exists for the Bundibugyo strain, although experimental therapies are being evaluated.

The WHO and CDC report ongoing community transmission with incomplete contact tracing, only about 55% of contacts are reportedly being followed in some affected areas and the outbreak is occurring in areas affected by population displacement, conflict zones, and limited healthcare infrastructure.

Countries Under Enhanced Surveillance: Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya.

Please do not hesitate to contact the FEMERAID International team should you require any additional information or clarification.

Kind regards,

Dr. Nuno Cosmelli
